VHS top-load players look like ET

My cousin George Cassadelis had one in his home. A couple of friends also had these sitting above their home TV units. I cringed at the very sight of them. After ejecting a tape one was left with a gaping hole revealing the entire guts of the VHS player. Top loaders are less than elegant.

Did we really need to be reminded how a VHS player was put together each time we ejected a cartridge?
